This means you can make money by not only providing clean out services, but also selling valuables that were left behind.
Obtain a business license to start your clean out business. You can obtain an application from your county clerk’s office or the department of licenses and inspections in your area.
Decide what you will do with the items you remove from homes and businesses. If you will attempt to resell some of the items you haul away, you will need space in which to store the items until they are sold
Choose a location from which to run your business. If you will have only one truck, you may run this business from home. If you will hire employees to assist with clean outs or even send employees out on clean out jobs of their own, you may prefer to rent office space instead.
Purchase or lease a truck for hauling away items. You may start with just one truck and then add additional trucks as you expand your business. If you purchase a vehicle, have your business name and phone number painted on the side of the truck. If you lease a truck, purchase a magnetic sign to attach to the side instead.

Find a company through which you can rent a large dumpster when needed. You will likely need a company that will provide a trash bin on short notice.
Buy the equipment you will need to operate your clean out business. You will need contractor trash bags, shovels and rakes for cleaning out homes and businesses. You will also need gloves to protect your hands as you carry furniture, appliances and other items.
Market your business by placing ads in newspapers and telephone directories. Build and market a website that explains the clean out services you provide, and include your website address on all of your marketing materials. Contact banks and mortgage lenders who may be interested in hiring you to clean out foreclosure properties. Network with funeral directors who may refer clients to you, and advertise in church newspapers as well.
Decide where you will sell items you do not throw in the trash or give to charity. For example, you may sell items through online auctions, flea markets, consignment shops and antique stores.
